JALKUT Albert S. “Al”, took his final flight on February 13, 2017 just two weeks after celebrating his 98th birthday. Al died peacefully in his home in the presence of those who cared deeply for him. Al was predeceased by his wife Cathleen but is survived by his children: Richard of Sanibel, FL; Bonnie of Randolph, MA; Thomas of Boston, MA; William of Sturbridge, MA; and Kayleen of Randolph, MA. Al also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Al was educated at Mercersburg Academy and Colgate University before enlisting in the Army Air Force in April of 1942. Like so many of his generation, Al served his country selflessly and without hesitation during WWII. Al earned his wings as a pilot and flew combat missions over Europe from DDay through all the major campaigns until the end of the war. Al was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, 7 Battle Stars and the Distinguished Unit Badge among other honors. Though he seldom spoke of those difficult times, Al remained immensely proud of his war service until the end of his life. Al’s pride in his service to his country was matched only by the pride that he took in his late wife Cathleen, his children and his extended family. Al and countless others just like him made this world a safer and better place for their families and for your family, too. Funeral services will be private.
