61, of Tampa, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017. David was born in Tampa on August 27, 1955 to the late Beryl K. Carlson and A. David Carlson. He is survived by his stepmother America M. Carlson, stepsister Mary K. Carlson and stepbrother John C. Carlson. David graduated from H.B. Plant High School class of 1973 where he was a member of the Hall of Fame and was voted best personality, no surprise to any who knew him. He graduated from Florida State University with a BS degree in 1977 where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order and remained a loyal FSU fan his entire life. David received his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in 1980.
During his career he was Assistant District Attorney, Harris County Texas and partner in the firms of Boswell & Hallmark, Marshall, Gonzalez & Carlson, Carlson & Smith, PC, Carlson, Smith & Rymer, PC, and Ebanks, Smith & Carlson, LLP. He was a member of the Texas State Bar, Houston Bar Association, Florida Academy of Professional Mediators, American Bar Association, The Florida Bar, The Colorado Bar, National District Attorney's Association, Association of Attorney Mediators, National College of District and County Attorneys and Association of Attorney Mediators. Mr. Carlson was the lead Council ATF Raid Commanders before United States Congressional Sub-Committee Hearings and resulting Federal Litigation Arising from Branch Davidian Raid at Waco, Texas. He was also certified in Mediation and Arbitration, The Supreme Court of Florida.
While David was an extremely successful attorney and achieved significant professional accomplishments, he never forgot his friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His wit, smile and friendship will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 509 East Twiggs Street, Tampa Florida 33602 on Saturday February 18th at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow at Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club 1601 South MacDill Avenue, Tampa Florida. In lieu of flowers, David requested that contributions be made to Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church. www.blountcurrymacdill.com
