ABRAHAM JOSEPH LEVY "Joe"
Of Chevy Chase, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017. He was the son of the late Morris and Margaret Levy, and son-in-law of the late Sam and Marie Higger. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Veda Higger Levy; his brother, Marvin Levy; his daughters Lisa Breslau (Jonathan) and Andrea Levy; and granddaughters, Sophia and Sara Breslau. Born in Baltimore, Joe grew up in Washington, DC. He graduated from the School of Pharmacy at George Washington University. He was a practicing pharmacist in the early years of his career. Later he launched a retail career with a chain of card and gift shops. He was an active volunteer for many charitable and educational organizations in the DC Metro Area. Perhaps Joe will be best remembered by his warm, kind-hearted and jovial personality. He always had a joke or pun to share with friends and strangers alike. To bring a smile to anyone's day was tantamount to his own daily routine. As William Butler Yeats said: "There are no strangers here; just friends you have not met yet." Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 6 at 10 a.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb St., NW, Washington, DC. Interment to follow at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, Clarksburg, MD.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to JSSA Hospice (www.jssa.org) and the Rockville Nursing Home (www.rockvillenursinghome.org)www.sagelbloomfield.com
