ALLEN R. CROSS, JR. (Age 90)  
Passed away at his home in Atlanta, Georgia, January 31, 2017. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, March 30, 1926 to Mildred Fisher Cross and Allen R. Cross. He attended public schools in Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School in 1944. Upon graduation, he volunteered for the Army Air Force and served as a B-29 crew member until discharged on July 17, 1946. After returning from military service, he attended The College of William and Mary and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He graduated in 1951 from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Architectural Engineering. He worked as a consultant engineer in Norfolk, for a structural steel fabricator in Alexandria, VA and for the Navy Department in several capacities including project manager for design, construction and engineering on projects in Newfoundland, Canada, Iceland, the Azores, the Caribbean, Europe and NATO, as well as the Director of Naval Research and the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command. He lived for many years in McLean, Virginia and Georgetown, Washington, DC. For the past three years he and his wife lived in Atlanta, GA, near their family. He is survived by his wife, Julianne Hale Cross; a son, Rev. Allen R. Cross, III and three grandsons, Mitchell, Spencer and Preston. He is to be buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, VA.
