Amaryllis C. Blaiklock
1935-2017
We are saddened to announce the passing of Amaryllis C. Blaiklock, who was found January 18, 2017 in her Houston home.
Amaryllis was born in 1935 in Toronto, Ontario Canada. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1955, and soon thereafter moved to the USA to pursue a successful career in commercial art. Amaryllis was also a talented, classically-trained musician.
In Boston, Amaryllis met Paul Blaiklock of Dawlish, England. They married in 1967, and together moved several times in the USA following Paul's career path in engineering. She gave birth to their son Philip in 1977. For the past 20 years, she lived in Houston. She loved to shop at the Galleria, and was also active in church and her neighborhood association.
Amaryllis was strong willed, determined, fiercely independent, and always opinionated about American politics. She was a lover of horses – and Rory, her son Philip's house rabbit. She was sharp of mind to her last breath.
Amaryllis is survived by her loving son, Philip (fiancé Kristin Power), who is grateful for her unconditional love and support throughout his life. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Wiens (Bob), her brother, John Collins (Cathy), her former husband Paul Blaiklock, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank (Eve), and her parents, Ruth and Ted Collins.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 12 o'clock, Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Avenue in Houston. In lieu of flowers, donations to a cancer agency of your choice are greatly appreciated.
