Adair Louise DevineJuly 03.1919 - January 25, 2017Adair Louise (Krombka) Devine, a long time resident of South San Francisco (67 years) passed away peacefully on January 25, 2017. Adair was born on July 3, 1919, in San Diego, CA. She was predeceased by her husband, John (Jack) Devine, her parents, Earl (Duke) and Marie Krombka, and her sister, Gloria. Adair was proud of being a native Californian and was a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. Adair was the proud mother of her 6 children who survive her. Dennis (Helen), Philip (Ted), Stephen (June), Suzanne Wyatt (John) Tim (Daphne), and Tammy. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Andrew, Dan, Tim, Arthur and Rita. Adair is also survived by several lifelong friends; Bonnie Pero, Rosa Robinson, Mariyah Fonseca, DeeDee Valencia and many others. Adair graduated from David Starr Jordan High School in Long Beach, CA, Class of 1937. She was proud to be employed by the WPA at the Long Beach Public Library, in her parent's grocery store, and during World War II, she was civilian employee of the US Navy at the Long Beach Naval Dry Docks. It was there that she met her future husband, Jack Devine, a US Navy Lieutenant from Pittsburg, PA. She was assigned to Jack as his secretary. After the war, Jack and Adair were married on St Patrick's Day, 1946. Their children spanned the "baby boomer" generation from Dennis (1947) to Tammy (1964). They held the record for being in the PTA longer than any other parents and Adair served as Serra Vista PTA president. Adair and Jack were founding parishioners of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in South San Francisco. After raising her children Adair worked as an office manager for several doctors in downtown SF and volunteered at Winston Manor Home Owners Association, Kaiser Hospital, SFO, and the Beach Chalet. Friends may attend A Celebration of Life for Adair at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 6, 2017, at Mater Dolorosa RC in SSF. Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery will immediately follow.
