Andrew R. Bencivenga Mass is Tuesday for WWII D-Day veteran, talented jazz musician Andrew R. Bencivenga of Summit, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at the age of 92. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, Jan. 2, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Ave., Summit. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 10:45 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Morris Ave., Summit. Interment will follow at St. Teresa's Cemetery. Andrew was born in Coney Island, N.Y., to John and Josephine Bencivenga and was a longtime resident of Summit. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army's Battery D 413D AAA Gun Battalion where he fought on D-Day in Normandy and other campaigns until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was employed as project supervisor/foreman with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. During his distinguished career he supervised the building of Giants Stadium. Andrew was a talented jazz musician and drum set player with the Summit Swing. He enjoyed playing golf, loved animals, and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan. Andrew is survived by his loving children: Jonathan (Joanne) Bencivenga, Cyndy Johnson (Dana), Kathleen McMahon (Al) and Andrew Bencivenga; his 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Andrew was predeceased by his wife, June Ann Bencivenga. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in his memory to Atlantic Home Care and Hospice.
