BENDO--Alexander John,

died peacefully on December 14, 2016 in his Manhattan home. Alex was born in Rockaway Beach on November 15, 1930 to John and Katherine Bendo, immigrants from Kastoria, Greece. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Tessie. Alex was happiest spending time with family and friends. Never one to shy from controversy, he relished conversing with anyone he happened to meet. As a lifelong resident of Rockaway Beach you could always find him on the beach or riding his bike. He leaves behind three children, Katherine Wright (Dickerson), Areta Bendo and John Bendo (Lea); six grandchildren, Christina, Lauren, Alexis, Stephanie, Alexander and Andrew. Viewing will be held at 9am on Friday, December 23 at The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity at 319 East 74th Street, New York immediately followed by funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Alexander Bendo to the St. Nicholas National Shrine at the World Trade Center, c/o the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, 8 East 79th Street, New York, NY 10075.
