Barbara graduated from Orange High School before attending Kean University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Education. She then went on to receive her Master's degree from Kean with a focus in childhood education. In 1952, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, and love of her life, Robert A. Frey. They raised a beautiful family in West Orange, where they lived for over 50 years. With her teaching degree from Kean, Barbara dedicated her life to working with children. She worked as a teacher and administrator for multiple day care centers during her career, with a primary focus on pre-school education. She spent most of her teaching career working for the YWCA, where she was a director for their Ridgeview Center in West Orange, N.J., and later in Orange, N.J. She loved working for the YWCA and embraced their facilities, teachers and children as her second home and family. What made Barbara unique was her ability to make kids feel special, loved and to believe they could be anything they wanted to be. Family and friends were also Barbara's passion and delight. She loved to travel and, above all, enjoyed spending time at their vacation home in Beach Haven, N.J. Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert Frey; her three children, Susan LaRusso (Will), Robert A. Frey Jr. (Linda), and Jeffrey Frey; cherished grandchildren, James, Rachel and Alyssa Frey, William and Nicole LaRusso, Jessica and Justin Frey; her sister, Joan Squicciarini (Peter), and brother, Harry Filkin (Karen). She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her and visited her during the past year. Given her lifelong devotion to children, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UNICEF, who are dedicated to making the world better for children. Visit the website at www.unicefusa.org.
