STAMM--Arthur A.,

passed away November 30, 2016 at home with his loving wife Marilyn at his side. Beloved father of Philip (Candi), Jeffrey (Lorna) and Robbie Olivo (Frank). Proud grandfather of Bessie, Wilson, Auston, Jarrett and Fallon. Arthur was a depression baby born on August 20, 1929 in New York City. His father, BIJ Stamm, emigrated from Latvia to the United States as a small child, speaking no English, with limited schooling and had to go to work at an early age to help support the family. To become more Americanized he changed the family name from Aaronstamm to Stamm. Arthur's dad met and married Libye Elkin. Libye was born in Minnesota but their families knew each other from Latvia. When Arthur came along during the great depression, there was no social support, no unemployment insurance, thousands were out of work and making a living became very difficult. Arthur's dad was forced to send Libye and Arthur to live with relatives in Minnesota while he struggled to get a business underway. And that he did. He started to sell a kerosene wick burner which eventually Arthur built into Stamm International Corporation. The Entrepreneur gene originated with his Dad. After graduating from Syracuse University in 1951 Arthur went to work with his Dad. By that time, the Company had operations in Holland, England, Canada and the United States. Arthur took control of the Company in the early 1960's, restructured the business and set up Stamm International Corporation. Today SIC is a mid-sized manufacturer of heating, ventilation and air conditioning products with Companies operating in four countries doing business in more than 35 others. The Company was his passion. He understood risk taking, was never afraid to fail, always looked for opportunities and knew that people were his most valuable asset. He took pride in the accomplishments of his employees around the world and made every individual feel the importance of their job, whether Managing Director or welder on the shop floor. Arthur was a tireless advocate for improving the value of his companies which in turn supported the livelihoods of his employees and their families. He worked hard, always had a winning smile on his face, a quick wit, was tough but fair and held people to high expectations that brought the best out of them. His handshake was firm and sincere. He was widely respected by the industry. He believed in the American Dream and lived it. To make this dream available to others Arthur established the BIJ Stamm Scholarship Fund at LaGuardia Community College. Arthur understood the importance and value of a good education and strove to bring out the best in people. He wanted to open up opportunities for those that were willing to put in the work and make the commitment. He found that with the students at LaGuardia who were a reflection of his Dad. For the last 30 years his wife Marilyn has been at his side. They have shared life together in all ways, as husband and wife, business partners, best friends and soulmates. Theirs was a very special relationship.
