Alice Green Grant, age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 30, 2016 at Clarewood House in Houston, Texas. Alice was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on April 29, 1930 to Peter and Catherine Green. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years Ernest Harrison Grant "Harry". She is survived by her children: Peter Grant and wife Michelle of Houston, TX and their sons Chris Spencer and wife Tina and Khodi Jacks; Beth Cooper and husband Chet, also of Houston; and Bruce Grant and wife Karen of Austin, TX. She had 5 grandchildren, Andrew Cooper and wife Sara of Houston, TX; Allison Cooper of Houston, TX; Jeffrey, Alexander and Matthew Grant of Austin, TX. She had 2 great-grandchildren Andy and Olivia Cooper. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Mary Warden of Newtown Square, PA and her sister in law Carolyn and husband John Dushku of Milford, MA, a niece, four nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
After growing up in Padnaram, Massachusetts, she attended Lincoln School in Providence, RI and later received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Connecticut College for Women in New London,CT. She married her childhood sweetheart on November 10, 1951. They began their married life in New York, NY and later moved to Houston, TX in 1956 where they raised their family and made life-long friends. Her first priority was raising her children and later went to work for Tallowood Baptist Church as their financial secretary.
She was a devoted member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, where they were blessed with numerous friends. She was a member of the Daughters of the King, participated in the Stephen Ministry as well as other volunteer activities.
Most of all, Alice was deeply loved. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
A service to celebrate the life of Alice will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis Episcopal Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Clarewood House for the extraordinary care they gave her and also to the clergy at St. Francis Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church, 345 Piney Point Rd. Houston, Texas 77024 or Clarewood House, 7400 Clarewood Dr. Houston, Texas 77036.
