Donald Gross

Died

GROSS, Donald Donald Gross of Carrollton, TX, passed away after a long hard fought battle with cancer on Monday, March 2, 2020. Born in Chicago, IL, on January 27, 1946, the son of Bernice Leben and Robert Gross. He has one sibling, Cindy Levy. To this day, the only person that could call him Donnie is his sister, everyone else knows him as Don, Donald, Dad or Pops. As a young man, Donald grew up going to Dacoma Day Camp, owned by his uncle. He was very fond of this camp as it helped shape him into adulthood. One of the first employees for Royal International Optical, Donald and his family moved to Texas, to help grow the company and eventually lead it as president. Donald met his bride of 42 years, Jacqueline Gross, while working at Royal. Their relationship was full of love, laughter and loud voices. They fought his battle of cancer together until the end as Jaqueline was by his side through it all. In his final business chapter, Donald joined his son to help grow Concept Surfaces. A man that was astute to business but foreign to the tile industry, Donald was able to achieve success through hard work, dedication and a little bit of luck. A man that never met a stranger, was always genuinely inquisitive, whether it was for a good story or to truly help. Every conversation led with, "Let me ask you a question." Solid in his convictions, he would often state to do the right thing knowing that it may not be the popular decision but rather what was best for the whole. This was evident in his battles in business and when sitting on the board of a charity. Donald leaves behind his wife (Jacqueline), four children: Lisa, Randy, Geoffrey (Katrina), Bradley (Amy); eight grandchildren: Jason, Brian, Noah, Abigail, Hailey, Caroline, Ethan and Elyssa.
