WWII Army veteran, his greatest joy was time with family
Alphonse P. Mazzei, 94, of Monmouth Beach, N.J., died peacefully at home on Jan. 1, 2020.
Alphonse was born in Newark, N.J., and lived in West Caldwell, N.J., and Montclair, N.J., before moving to Monmouth Beach 30 years ago. He was the owner of Hodges Rental and Sales located in Montclair, and also worked for Essex County College and Anheuser Busch. He served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II receiving two Bronze Stars.
He was a member of the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus at Immaculate Conception Church and the Montclair Elks. Alphonse was a parishioner of Church of the Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach. He enjoyed golf, skiing, traveling and fishing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Angela Mazzei; his brother, Michael Mazzei; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Allen Roth, Donna and Larry Keating and Paula and Gregory DeMasi; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Annemarie Mazzei, and three grandchildren, Nicole and her husband, Alex, Daniel and Gianna.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., Long Branch, N.J. The funeral is on Monday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Church of the Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach, N.J. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hackensack Meridian Hospice, 1340 Campus Parkway, Suite A3, Neptune, N.J. 07753.
