Loving husband and father; accomplished golfer
Arnt Kenneth (Ken) Bensen, 83, died Dec. 23, 2019, at his home in Whiting, N.J. Eleanor, his loving wife of 57 years, was at his side.
Ken was born on Sept. 10, 1936, in Brooklyn N.Y., to Margaret and Axel Bensen, immigrants from Norway. He graduated from New Utrecht High School in 1954, attended Bucknell University where he captained the golf team, and graduated from NYU in 1958, with a BA in accounting.
Ken served in the Army Reserve for six years. He worked as an auditor for Arthur Young, in the budget department at Pan Am, as assistant treasurer for City Investing Co, and as CFO for Lawrence Investing Co.
After he and Eleanor Pedersen were married on May 26, 1962, they toured Europe on their honeymoon and he played in the British Amateur golf tournament at Hoylake in Liverpool, England. Ken, an accomplished golfer, qualified for and played in the USGA Jr. Open in California and the USGA Public Links Championship in Hawaii. He was a frequent club champion at Shore View Golf Club and Fairmount Country Club.
Ken also loved skiing and travelling, especially to Norway and Lake Louise, Michigan.
Ken loved his family and kept them entertained with his great sense of humor. Ken is survived by his wife, Eleanor; son, Steve and wife, Cynthia; son, Mark and wife, Beth; grandchildren, Emily, Peter, Elizabeth, Ally, Hannah; sister, Shirley and husband, Larry Manning; nephew, Jeffrey Manning; nieces, Jill Morrill and Kristen Flanagan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Richard.
A memorial service will be held at Whiting Bible Church, Manchester Twp., N.J., on Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to America's Keswick or Whiting Bible Church are appreciated.
