Abraham 'Abe' Haber
Accounting firm partner; active in Hillside community
Abraham "Abe" Haber, 97, of Hillside, N.J., passed away peacefully on Nov. 26, 2019, surrounded by loved ones.
A member of the Greatest Generation, Abe was born in Newark and grew up in Belleville, N.J. He proudly served his country in World War II as a sailor on the battleship, Iowa.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1945, he attended Rutgers Business School, where he earned his B.S. in business administration in just three years.
After passing the CPA exam in 1951, he became a partner with the accounting firm of Lieberman Brothers Drossman & Albert. In 1953, he married Julyette (nee Felder). She predeceased him in 2008, after 55 years of marriage.
Abe was very community-minded, serving on the Hillside Library Board for almost two decades and then as its president. The local B'Nai Brith lodge and Probus chapter also benefited from his involvement, and he served as B'Nai Brith president in 1994-95.
He and his family dedicated many hours to their synagogue, Temple Shomrei Torah (Hillside), and were honored as Family of the Year in 1973.
Abe is survived by a daughter, Fern Friedman of Boynton Beach, Fla., and two sons, Manny (Shari) of Upper Saddle River, N.J., and Scott (Gail) of Lake Worth, Fla.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel, W-150 Rte 4 East, Paramus, N.J.
