PATTEN, Betty Betty Jo Patten was born March 10, 1929 to Joe A. and Corine Wheeler of Corpus Christi, Texas. She died November 16, 2019, while living independently at home. Betty Jo grew up in Brownsville, Texas and graduated Brownsville High School in 1946. She attended Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas, where she met and married Gerald Dean Patten in September of 1948. They raised two children, Debbie and Richard. Betty Jo had a long and varied work history. She worked at radio station KBOR in Brownsville, Edinburg High School, Edinburg, W.T. White High School, Dallas, Steve Snider, Inc, Dallas, Parkdale State Bank, Corpus Christi, Ward Homes, Inc., Corpus Christi, and with Pat-Vac, Inc., Corpus Christi. In 1996, she returned to Dallas and worked at TLC, Inc. which later sold and became Conseco , Inc. until 2011 when she retired at age 82. Betty Jo had a large circle of friends and family, all of whom loved to be treated to her wonderful dinner parties. She was a wonderful cook and hostess. The one word often used to describe her - classy! Betty Jo is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Dean Patten in 1988 and her daughter, Deborah Ann Patten in 1996. She is survived by her son Richard Patten (Julie), her two grandsons, Feild Patten (Natalie), Reid Patten (Sara), five great grandchildren, and many cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Kessler Park United Methodist Church 1215 Turner Avenue, Dallas, TX 75208 with a Burial on Friday, November 22,2019 at 1:00 PM at Anchorage Cemetery in Poteet, Texas. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St Jude Children's research Hospital, PO BOX 1000 DEPT 495, Memphis, TN 38101-9801
