Died

BARNHART, Barney Barney J. Barnhart of Garland, Texas, died of ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, on July 16, 2019, at Vibra Hospital in Richardson, Texas. He was 76. Mr. Barnhart was born on Aug. 5, 1942, in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Bethany Alyssa Barnhart; and parents, Irene Louise Keeler and John Harrison Barnhart who was killed in Germany during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of 56 years; daughter, Melissa; son, John, and daughter-in-law, Mary; grandson, Shawn; great-grandchildren, Caysen and Makynlee; brothers, Orville Barnhart and Mike Keeler, and numerous nieces and nephews. Barney worked for E-Systems/Raytheon for 42 years and served as an election judge for 20 years. Early on in his career he worked at Aero Commander in Bethany, Okla., and for Blackbear Bosin, a Comanche-Kiowa sculptor and painter, at the Great Plains Studios in Wichita, Kansas. He attended Abilene Christian College in Texas and Friends University in Kansas. Throughout his life he enjoyed model airplane building, painting, and camping and fishing, and dearly loved spending time with his extended family and friends from work and church. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at Williams Funeral Directors in Garland. A memorial service with Pastor Wayne Wood officiating will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at Williams Funeral Directors. Barney will be buried near his granddaughter, Bethany, at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 22, at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.
