Proud grandmother, hospital volunteer, Mass is on Thursday
Caroline Mahar, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at St. Joseph Health and Rehab Center in Cedar Grove, N.J.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the O'Boyle Funeral Home, 309 Broad St., Bloomfield, N.J., on Thursday at 9 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Cassian's Church in Upper Montclair, N.J., at 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment will take place at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Visitation is on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Caroline was born in Syracuse, N.Y., where she attended school and spent her early life.
She married James Mahar on Aug. 23, 1952, and together they raised seven children in Montclair, N.J. She was a longtime volunteer for Saint Vincent's Hospital Auxiliary and also volunteered for Hospice and Meals-on-Wheels.
She was predeceased by her parents, four siblings and her husband.
She is survived by her seven children, Mark of San Marcos, Calif. (and daughter-in-law, Maria Cotton of Lahaska, Pa.), Matthew (and Sissie Grapstul) of Wall Township, N.J., Betsy (and Kevin Carswell) of Fishkill, N.Y., Catherine (and Pat Grant) of Glen Ridge, N.J., Christa (and Paul Seaman) of Ipswich, Mass., Stacey (and Jane DePalma) of Bloomfield, and Jay of West Orange, N.J., (and daughters-in-law, Susan Martin of Nutley, and Mary Ellis of Temecula, Calif.) She was a proud grandmother of 17 and great-grandmother of five. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews and their extended family.
